Russian Woman Dies at Her Own Funeral

There is nothing more tragic than the death of a loved one.  Except maybe the non-death of a loved one that turns into an actual death.  I have always had an irrational fear of being buried alive but now having read this article I don't think its that irrational.  This just serves as a cautionary tale... GET CREMATED!!!

A Russian woman died from a heart attack brought on by the shock of waking up at her own funeral.

Fagilyu Mukhametzyanov, 49, was mistakenly declared deceased by doctors, the Daily Mail reported Friday.

But she later woke up - in a coffin surrounded by sobbing relatives. She started screaming after realizing she was about to be buried alive.

Mukhametzyanov, a resident of Kazan, was rushed back to the hospital where she was declared dead -- this time for real.

Her husband, Fagili Mukhametzyanov, was distraught.

"Her eyes fluttered and we immediately rushed her back to the hospital but she only lived for another 12 minutes," he said.

He told The Sun that he would sue the hospital.

"I am very angry and want answers. She wasn't dead when they said she was and they could have saved her."

A spokesman at the hospital, also in Kazan, said officials were investigating.

Adult Twins Lived with Dead Mother for Three Months

Every now and again you come across the a story that reminds you just how screwed up people really are.  Not only did they live with their dead mother for three months, but they left her in the foyer that whole time.  WHO DOES THAT!!!  Can you imagine being that woman lying on the floor on your 89th birthday while your twin boys refuse to take you to the doctor or help you up.

Twin Houston men were charged Tuesday with the murder of their 89-year-old mother after police say the pair allowed her to die on the floor in their foyer after she fell, then lived for three months with her decomposing, bug-infested corpse.

Edwin Larry Berndt and his brother, Edward Christian Berndt, both 48, were arrested Monday when police went to check on Sybil Berndt, prompted by a neighbor who called to say the elderly woman had not been seen since January.

Edwin Berndt answered the officer's knocks and initially said "everyone was fine and there was no need for the police at their home," according to court documents. The officer insisted she had to see Berndt's mother and he let her into the house.

The home was in "deplorable condition and smelled terribly," and the elderly Berndt was lying face down on the floor of the foyer, according to the documents. Sybil Berndt was dressed in a nightgown pulled up under her arms and was not wearing underwear. The body was in an advanced state of decomposition and insects were crawling around it, the documents said.

The brothers told police their mother had fallen and died, and that they didn't have enough money to bury her. They said they didn't call police because they didn't want to go to jail.

Police searched the home and found bank statements from JP Morgan Chase totaling about $700,000, according to court documents.

The twins later told police they lived with their mother and cared for her. On Jan. 10, Edwin Berndt said he and his brother were watching the BCS Championship football game when their mother "came in ranting and raving and she then fell down and did not get up." He said they decided to leave her on the floor because they didn't have money to provide her with medical treatment.

For the first day, Sybil Berndt was conscious and able to speak, but did not ask for any help, Edwin Berndt said. His brother said they didn't give her any food or water while she lay on the floor.

Three days later, on Jan. 13, the elderly woman died, Edwin Berndt told police. He told them he remembered the date because it was a day after her 89th birthday.

The brothers then decided to leave her on the floor because they didn't have money to bury her.

The court clerk says the brothers do not have an attorney yet.

An autopsy was to be conducted on Tuesday.

LA Clippers Celebrat Black History Month in March

Before I try to bash what the Clippers did I want to go on record and say "at least they did something".  Even though it as in the wrong month.  I mean really?  Did they not come up with this idea until the end of February?  But wait, they still had a game on the 26th against Boston (that was still during Black History Month).  I absolutely love it when PR stunts go wrong.

Crematorium to heat water for town's swimmers

This is by far the creepiest thing I've read about this week.  Love it!

LONDON (Reuters) – A local authority in England has given the go ahead for a swimming pool to use energy created by the next-door crematorium to heat its water.

The plan, the first of its kind in Britain, will see waste heat from the incinerator chimney used to warm up the neighboring leisure center and its new pool.

"The cremation process is a sensitive matter and we wanted to be sure our proposals had widespread support," said Councilor Carole Gandy, the leader of Redditch Borough Council in central England.

Eighty to 90 percent of people who contacted the council had backed the scheme, she said.

"Throughout we have been careful to explain how the technology would work, that it is tried and trusted, and that the practice is quite common in parts of Europe and especially in Sweden," she said.

"We already support our residents to insulate their homes and be energy-efficient, so it seemed only right for us to explore this re-use of energy."

However, local trade union officials are less than impressed with the plan, saying it was a reflection of the massive public spending cuts being implemented by the government.

"These proposals ... are sick and an insult to local residents," said Roger McKenzie, regional secretary for Unison, Britain's biggest public sector labor union.

Body Parts Found in Backpack

I saw this in a movie once... It didn't end well for all parties involved.  What ever happened to just shooting someone?

LOS ANGELES ( KTLA) -- Police are searching for a Pennsylvania couple after a man's dismembered body was discovered inside a backpack in a hotel near downtown Los Angeles.

A housekeeper at the Continental Hotel, near Skid Row, found the bag filled with body parts on Nov. 29.

Police say more body parts were found wrapped in blankets underneath the bed along with a knife.

The victim has been identified as 49-year-old Herbert Tracy White, LAPD officials said.

The suspects, 36-year-old Edward Garcia Jr. and his wife, 25-year-old Melissa Hope Garcia, also known as Melissa Turner, are believed to be in Hollywood or en route to Pennsylvania, according to LAPD detectives.

Investigators believe White may have been killed as part of a robbery gone wrong.

An arrest warrant has charged Garcia and his wife with capital murder involving the infliction of torture. They face a possible death sentence or life in prison without eligibility for parole, if convicted.

Doctor Jailed for Giving Breast Exams in a Bar

First of all, who the f*ck gets a breast exam in a bar? I would love to hear how that conversation went down... "Hey ladies you should have your breast exam done today while you are drinking that martini."  Really?!?

An Idaho judge has set bond at $100,000 for a Boise woman police say posed as a physician and duped at least two other women into having their breasts examined by her at Boise-area nightclubs.

Kristina Ross, 37, remains in Ada County Jail in Boise on two felony counts of practicing medicine without a license.

Police say Ross introduced herself to victims -- one at a downtown Boise bar and the other at a nightclub in a Boise suburb -- as a plastic surgeon named Berlyn Aussieahshowna, a name that turned out to be bogus.

The two women told Boise officers they believed Ross was a physician because of her apparent medical knowledge, and they agreed to undergo what they thought were breast exams, which happened at the bars.

As part of her ruse, Ross gave the women the telephone number of a real licensed plastic surgeon in Boise, the state capital, authorities said.

Staff at that medical office became alarmed at the number of calls they received from women in recent weeks attempting to confirm appointments or surgeries with a Berlyn Aussieahshowna, according to charging documents.

Medical workers on Tuesday alerted Boise police about the pattern, and they later arrested Ross.

The suspect's gender is unclear. Idaho court records show that Ross was arrested for petty theft in the spring and that the arrest warrant was issued to a Kristoffer Jon Ross.

The Idaho Statesman website reported that Ross has a previous criminal record as a man but identifies herself as a woman and was booked into Ada County Jail as a female.

Cosmetic surgical procedures Ross discussed with victims after she touched their breasts under the guise of a medical evaluation included breast augmentation and liposuction.

The court on Wednesday found Ross was eligible for a public defender and set a preliminary hearing on the two felony charges for December 1. If convicted, Ross could face a maximum of five years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000 for each count.

Man Dies from Caffeine Overdose

The sad thing about this story is that someone dies.  However, why in the hell would anyone think that taking the caffeine equivalent of 70 energy drinks is a good idea.  I mean really... WTF! My body can barely handle an energy drink to be honest.

A 23-year-old British man died after ingesting two spoonfuls of caffeine powder that had the same potency as 70 cans of energy drinks.

An inquest over the April death of Michael Lee Bedford from Mansfield, in central England, was held on Friday where Bedford's friends said they saw him take "spoonfuls of white powder" that was given to him by a friend and wash it down with an energy drink at a party, reports the Nottingham Post. Fifteen minutes after taking the powder, "He was puking up blood and he was sweating really bad," said one friend.

The packet of caffeine powder was purchased online for $5.38 and instructed users to take no more than one sixteenth of a teaspoon.

"Caffeine is so freely available on the Internet...but it's so lethal if taken in the wrong dose and here we see the consequence," Coroner Dr. Nigel Chapman said at the inquest. "Who would take (one sixteenth of a teaspoon)? It's such a small dosage, the warning is so small on the front of it.

"If you're sharing a bag, carrying it around and if you hadn't seen the warning — it could be that anyone at the party could have taken it. It's so dangerous to take something like this."

Bedford's death has been ruled accidental.

Officer Accused Of Nudity and Attempted Sexual Assault

This is one of those stories that cause you to look twice at police officers.  I can't begin to fathom how this situation even happened.

Prosecutors say a Cathedral City police officer is facing criminal charges after he allegedly stripped off his uniform and jumped nude into a pool where he attempted to sexually assault a woman.

The Riverside County district attorney’s office said Thursday that 37-year-old John Fox Jr. has been charged with two felonies, attempted sexual penetration and assault under the color of authority, as well as misdemeanor counts of indecent exposure and sexual battery in connection with the Sept. 29 incident.

Prosecutors say Fox was responding to a noise complaint at the home when he found three women swimming in the backyard pool.

The homeowner called 911 to complain that an officer was swimming nude in the pool. Fox put his uniform back on and left the residence before his supervisor arrived.

Arm Gets Stuck in Toilet Retrieving Cell Phone

When I read this article the only thing I thought was "Didn't this guy had phone insurance?"  I really hope that he hadn't used the bathroom before he dropped his phone or that he at least flushed first.  How embarrassing!

Lucky for you I found video.  Sorry it is in Chinese though.

A Chinese man who got his arm stuck in a toilet pipe in an attempt to retrieve his dropped mobile phone was freed by rescuers, state television reported on Tuesday.

When rescue workers arrived on the scene in Jiangsu province in eastern China, they found the man crouched over the toilet in a bathroom stall, his entire arm submerged up to the shoulder in the drain.

Workers broke the porcelain bowl with crowbars and hammered the pipes, taking care not to injure the man, CCTV reported.

After 10 minutes of work, the man was able to slowly remove his cut and bruised arm from the bowl and retrieve his waterlogged phone.

Thousands of condoms clog Games village drains?

Apparently international athletes get laid a lot... This might possibly make the greatest story of the week!

Thousands of flushed condoms threaten to choke the Commonwealth Games village's drainage system, media reports said, in the latest problem to hit the venue from hidden snakes to outbreaks of dengue.

Games organizers, who won a race against time to ready the village, are now battling to clear clogged drains after thousands of non-biodegradable contraceptives were flushed down toilets in the first week of the event.

"If that is happening, it shows that there is use of condoms and I think that is a very positive story. Athletes are being responsible," Commonwealth Games Federation President Mike Fennell told a news conference Thursday.

"We all know that encouraging safe sex is a very important thing to do."

Games organizers had provided 8,000 free condoms in the village, and the provision appears to be in high demand. One official told the Mail Today newspaper Thursday that over 4,000 had already been snapped up by eager athletes.

Shoddy construction work, fears over an outbreak of dengue fever and worries about security had meant many teams delayed their move into the village before the Games began. However, blame for the latest problem lies firmly with the athletes.

Following a decision to provide free condoms at the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona, it has become something of a tradition.

At the Sydney Olympic Games in 2000, athletes quickly used up the 70,000 free condoms provided, forcing organizers to supply another 20,000, while at the 2004 Games in Athens, the provision was doubled to 130,000.

At both the Beijing Games in 2008, and the Vancouver Winter Olympics in February, 100,000 condoms were provided for athletes.
