The first annual Mosaic LA Film Festival (MOLAFF) will take place on November 8, 2008, at the Silent Movie Theatre in Los Angeles, CA.  The 2008 festival is dedicated to the theme of living “Wide Awake” and organizers encourage creative, uplifting interpretations of the theme.  The festival is sponsored by Mosaic and Awaken, two nonprofits dedicated to creatively serving the Los Angeles area and beyond.  The festival organizers have received entries from all over the world and are accepting short film entries through October 10.

“‘Wide Awake’ is about finding the dream that fits your life and then making that dream your life,” said Erwin McManus, author and founder of Mosaic and Awaken organizations.  “Too many people are living a life they feel obligated to live rather than the life they were created to live.”

Festival organizer Shannon Black advocates the renewed sense of purpose that MOLAFF’s partnering organizations represent.  “We’re really interested in seeing life-changing filmmaking,” said Black.  “We hope that everyone who participates—filmmakers as well as those who attend and volunteer—will experience a positive change in the way that they view the world, and each other.”

MOLAFF will screen the chosen films in morning and afternoon sessions.  Three winners and an audience award will be announced following the final screening.  It is anticipated that some entries will be chosen for the Awaken short film series distributed by Lions Gate and Indelible.

Los Angeles’s own Damah Film Festival partnered with the Awaken project earlier this year.  The top three winners at MOLAFF will have their entries automatically entered into the running for the 2008 Damah festival.

McManus is also the founder of Mosaic, a creative community with satellite campuses across the greater Los Angeles area, and author of “Wide Awake,” the book that inspired the festival theme.

The 2008 Mosaic LA Film Festival is sponsored by Mosaic.org and Awaken.org, collaborative community-serving organizations headquartered in Pasadena, CA.  For more information, users can log onto www.mosaiclafilmfest.com.
