YouTube ordered to give user data to Viacom Inc.
On June 30th Google, parent company of YouTube, was ordered to give a database with usernames of YouTube viewers, what videos they watched when, and users' computer addresses. This is part of a $1 billion dollar copyright infringement lawsuit filed against Google from Viacom Inc, owner of MTV, and Paramount. Viacom says that it has no interest in identifying individual users.
Essentially Viacom will have access to who you are, what videos you’ve watched and when. That seems like a lot of personal information. This just sounds like the beginning of a big debacle (we all remember the music lawsuits).
