We’ve tried, but we just can’t take it anymore!

Now one of the things that scare the hell out me is the thought of having to go into surgery for anything.  I remember getting my wisdom teeth pulled and I was terrified to be put under.  Now imagine going through the actual surgery only to find out that they accidently operated on the wrong body part, or even worse left something (like a scalpel) inside you.  Apparently it’s been happening and now hospitals in California are reporting it online.    

Within 10 months (August 2007 to May 2008) there were 41 occasions where the wrong body part was operated on.  There were 145 cases where there was something left in the patient’s body.  Total there were 1002 “adverse” events that caused harm to patents.  Now I know it doesn’t seem like a lot of people but can you imagine waking up surgery only to find out they operated on the wrong body part!
